Astrology of the week: december 15-21

Erosion, Identity, and the Quiet Work of Becoming

This week carries a very particular emotional tone. Anxiety may be stirred. Escapist urges may surface. You might feel as though your identity, your authenticity, or the way you show up in the world is being questioned, challenged, or even shut down—especially by an authority figure, institution, or external structure.

This is not a week of ease.
It’s a week of erosion.

And erosion, while painful in the moment, is not meaningless. It’s the slow breaking apart that makes room for something more honest to emerge.

If something feels like an attack on who you are, pause before internalizing it. What’s happening now is less about punishment and more about stripping away what no longer fits. In hindsight, this period will reveal itself as a gift—even if right now it feels raw, disorienting, or unfair.

Give yourself space this week: to rest, to reflect, to digest what’s unfolding.

Monday, December 15 — Mars enters Capricorn

Strategic action replaces impulsive force.

Mars moves into Capricorn, a sign where it is exalted. This means Mars has access to all the tools it needs to do its job well—just with more intention and long-term vision.

Mars wants to sever, initiate, exert energy, and move forward. In Capricorn, that drive becomes disciplined, strategic, and sustainable. This is not about rushing. It’s about choosing your battles wisely and committing to what can actually last.

Mars is also the first planet to enter Capricorn, setting the tone for what’s to come as Mercury, the Sun, and Venus follow. A new chapter is quietly beginning—one that prioritizes structure, responsibility, and purposeful movement.

As Mars enters Capricorn, it begins forming an opposition to Jupiter in Cancer. Both planets are exalted, and both want to do good—but in very different ways.

  • Jupiter in Cancer wants to nurture, protect, emotionally support, and expand care.
  • Mars in Capricorn wants to move toward a goal, take responsibility, and build something enduring.

This opposition can amplify tension or conflict if you try to do everything alone. The medicine here is interdependence.

Lean on others.
Invite support.
Share the vision.

When your goals are aligned with the greater good—and not just personal ambition—you’ll find the fuel you need to move forward without burning out.

Wednesday, December 17 — Sun square Saturn

When authenticity meets authority.

The Sun represents your vitality, life force, identity, purpose, and the way you shine. It illuminates what has been hidden and sustains life itself.

Saturn, by contrast, represents limits, structure, responsibility, and authority.

When the Sun squares Saturn, friction arises. You may feel restricted, criticized, or blocked—especially when you’re trying to express yourself authentically. This could show up as tension with a literal authority figure, a system, or even your own internalized rules about who you’re allowed to be.

Pause. Breathe. Ground yourself.

Saturn is not here to diminish you—it’s here to refine you. The lessons Saturn brings often feel heavy in the moment, but with time, they reveal deeper wisdom and resilience.

You are not being punished.
You are being shaped.

Friday, December 19 — New Moon in Sagittarius

Planting intentions in the unknown.

This New Moon in Sagittarius sits in the middle of ongoing squares to both Saturn and Neptune. There is something unfolding now that may feel like a direct challenge to your identity, beliefs, or sense of purpose.

You’re being asked to unfurl something—without fully understanding where it leads.

This is not a New Moon for rigid goals or tightly controlled intentions. Instead, allow your intentions to be rooted in support:

  • Support you may not see yet
  • Support that doesn’t come in obvious forms
  • Support that exists beyond your current understanding

This is a “set it and forget it” New Moon. Release the need to know how it will happen. Let source, spirit, goddess, or the universe reveal the path in its own time.

Trust that something meaningful is moving beneath the surface—even if you can’t name it yet.

Saturday, December 20 — Sun square Neptune

The urge to escape—and the invitation to stay.

Shortly after the Sun squares Saturn, it moves into a square with Neptune. Neptune governs dreams, spirituality, imagination, memory, and transcendence—but also escapism, addiction, and dissociation.

You may feel the urge to check out. To numb. To avoid.
Especially if earlier in the week felt heavy or confronting.

This square can bring up emotional residue from the past—possibly echoing themes from June or July. It’s a revisiting, not a regression.

What’s happening now is another layer of erosion. Something is dissolving so you can rebuild with more honesty and integrity.

The invitation is not to escape—but to soften.

Rest.
Nap.
Drink water.
Meditate.
Create quiet rituals that keep you present in your body.

Let yourself feel without judgment.

give yourself grace

This week may feel tender, confronting, and emotionally destabilizing at times. But beneath the surface, something powerful is taking shape.

What’s breaking down is not who you are—it’s who you’ve been told you need to be.

Trust the erosion.
Honor the rest.
Let the rebuild come in its own time.

If you know your chart, pay close attention to the Sagittarius, Capricorn, Pisces, and Cancer areas—these are the places where the story is unfolding now.

And above all, be gentle with yourself. You’re in the middle of becoming.
